Safe Motherhood

Every minute in everyday, somewhere in the world and most often in a developing countries, a women dies from complications related to pregnancy and child birth.

Considering high mortality deaths in developing countries, WHO in 1987A.D. conceived the idea of "Safe Motherhood Initiatives" (SMI).

In overall goal of SMI is to reduce both maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity during pregnancy and child birth.

Later on,"International Conference on Population and Development" (ICPD) introduced Reproductive Health and SMI became integral part of it.

Safe Motherhood also falls on Reproductive Health that basically deals with maternal and child Health Care.

Safe Motherhood encompasses a series of initiatives, practices, protocol and service to ensure High quality gyenecological, family planning, pre-natal, intranatal, post-natal care of mother, fetus and infant during pregnancy and child birth.

It contains following services:
1. Appropriate age of women for first conception.
2. Care of pregnant women.
3. Safe delivery services.
