Stage during pregnancy

Post natal care of mother
Post natal care refers to systematic examination of puerperal women and advices given for them.
This period remains for 42 days after delivery.
The care includes:
Nutritious food like fish, milk, meat, fruits, eggs, etc
Adequate rest and sleep
Personal hygiene and cleanliness of genitals and breasts
Family support
Periodic health check up
Happy environment at home.

Infant health care 
It is the care given to infant ( child under 1 year age) immediately as soon as delivery.
A healthy newly born infantbhas normally 3 kg body weight and 50 cm height.
After 1 year of birth, weight is increased 3 times and height by half times more.
Infant health care can be carried as mentioned below:-

  • As soon as the baby comes out, it should be hold upside down so that the mucus, water entered into mouth and nose can easily come out.
  • The baby should be gentley hit to evaluate the condition of baby.
  • Mucous deposited into nose and mouth of baby should be cleaned.
  • Umbilical cord should be cut with clean and sterilized blade or razor leaving 2 cm long.
  • Periodic health check up of the baby is necessary
  • The first milk which is called colostrum is the most nutritious food and supplies natural immunities to the baby.
  • If the baby could not cry, seems blue, could not move and have fast heart beating baby should immediately be taken into hospital.
